The Lowdown.

September 21, 2020

It's been a strange ol' time for the past month or so. I know it has been for a long time for a lot of people but especially recently for me. Beginning of August, everyone in my team at work was put at risk or redundancy. The company said they wanted to more than half the team and in a team of 7, that doesn't bode well. End of August we found out who was going and I was one of them. I had sort of already accepted it though since being put at risk so I was prepared to be told that.

In those sort of situations, I go into fight or flight mode. I started putting feelers out and found that my old job was going so I applied and thankfully, I got it. I am back to being a florist again and out the beauty industry, for now or for good, who knows! I was a little apprehensive at first because I felt like it was a step backwards and it sort of felt like stepping into a time machine. Ultimately, I was just relieved to have a job, same hours, better pay and free parking. Win win win.

The last two weeks, I've been working at both so I have been pretty frazzled but you just do what you gotta, can NOT wait for pay day though! I do mainly early shifts and the 5am alarm was a shock to the system but finishing at midday is great.

I'm also looking forward to just being able to enjoy town again. When I starting working in the city centre, I thought "it'll be great, so handy for after work drinks, meeting friends"... I was wrong. Working in town basically just means at least 1 hour traffic jams and paying over the odds for parking a month. I used to love town, really appreciate it but now I just associate it with work. After a few months or so, I think I'll get the love for it back again.
