Intentions for 2022.

January 19, 2022

A belated welcome to 2022.

Whatever 2021 threw at you, however you felt about the last 12 months, it’s over now. At risk of sounding like a cliché, it’s time for a fresh start. I haven’t really set New Years resolutions for the last couple of years as they tend to be wildly unreachable and too extreme that you’re just setting yourself up to fail before you even begin. That’s not the way to start a new year. Instead I have a couple of broader goals for the next 12 months.

It’s so easy to let life get in the way of making. Instead of letting the mundane stop it, I want to create from it. That is the content I enjoy, the normal, the slower paced things as it’s far more relatable and enjoyable to me. I want to take more photographs with an actual camera. I only shot one roll of film all of last year and I want to change that this year. I don’t just mean on film either, I want to dust off my digital camera too.

Jon would tell you that I have a problem buying art supplies. I buy everything I need to try something new and then they sit there and don’t get used out of fear of failing. I just don’t want to care about that. If I paint, who cares if its crap. I like doing it.

I’m sure I’m not the only person guilty of scrolling instagram or Pinterest when bored. I could spend so long just mindlessly scrolling and if you asked me what I’d seen, I couldn’t tell you. When I get that screen time report on my phone on a Monday, I cringe at the numbers. What else could I do with that time? How much better could that be spent.

That’s not saying I’ll never scroll those apps again but just limit myself and not waste so much time on them.

I didn’t quite know how to phrase this one but I want to do more things just because its fun. Jon and I went bowling last week as we were both off work and it was a lot of fun. I think it’d been about 13 years since I’d been bowling and it was a really great date day. I have a pair of roller skates and got a helmet for Christmas (safety first!) and I guess I just want to say fuck it more often and just do things for the joy of it.

There is so much of the uk I haven’t been to and I want to see more of it. Being in the North East, we’re really lucky to have some great spots around us and we are so close to Scotland as well. There’s a few places I have in mind but I’m open to most places. We’ve already had a day trip to Sheffield this month although I didn’t see much of it as I was there to be tattooed and we had a day in Northallerton as well.

I guess that most of these things have to do with being more present in general. I do have some more practical things as well, like hopefully a house move, creating our space together, more time outside.

Here’s to the next 12 months.
